The first university established in independent Algeria and the country's largest at 105 hectares, with 8 faculties (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Electronics & Computer Science, Mechanical & Process Engineering, Earth Sciences/Geography/Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering) and ~20,000 students. Campus designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Language of instruction switched from French to English in 2025. Ranked 2nd in Algeria, 91st in Africa (US News 2025).
