Major public university located in Carthage (historic archaeological site in the northern suburbs of Tunis). Founded 1989 as Université de Tunis II during the first reorganisation of Tunisian HE; renamed Université 7 Novembre à Carthage in 1991 (after the date of Ben Ali's accession). Renamed Université de Carthage in 2011 following the Tunisian Revolution (Jasmine Revolution, January 2011) and the national policy of removing Ben Ali-era names. Multi-faculty: sciences and technology of Bizerte, science Bardo, business school of Carthage, École Polytechnique de Tunisie (EPT, La Marsa), plus several engineering schools and institutes. Strong polytechnic and applied-sciences orientation.
