Founded in 1985, the University of the Republic of San Marino (UNIRSM) is the national university of San Marino — one of the world's oldest republics. Small but distinctive, it is particularly noted for its DESIGN school and its international programme in HISTORICAL STUDIES (including a long-running international PhD), alongside economics, engineering/architecture, health sciences, and digital media. Campuses/sites are distributed across San Marino (including Dogana and Montegiardino). As the only degree-granting university of this microstate, this single entry represents complete coverage for San Marino. 🕯️ Honest context: San Marino is one of the world's oldest surviving republics (tradition: 301 AD; the 1600 Statutes remain in force). Though officially neutral in WWII, it was mistakenly bombed by the RAF in June 1944 and briefly occupied, yet sheltered more than 100,000 refugees fleeing the fighting in Italy — a remarkable humanitarian act for so small a state.
